Dr. Kim Maddison, DDS

Dr. Kim Maddison, DDS

Dentist

Dr. Maddison has owned and been operating this growing practice since 2005. He graduated from Dalhousie University in 1995 with his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. Prior to, he completed a year of Immunology in Special Sciences at Dalhousie University and a Bachelor of Science degree from Acadia University.
Kim enjoys the diversity of general dentistry and has a special interest in root canal therapy and oral surgery. His passion for dentistry, and his overall concern for people is evident in the positive atmosphere and team spirit around the office.
Dr. Tim Giddens, DDS

Dr. Tim Giddens, DDS

Dentist

Dr. Giddens received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Dentistry in 2001. From 2000 until 2008, he served as an officer in the Canadian Forces Dental Service. He is certified by the National Dental Examining Board of Canada and is registered with the Provincial Dental Board of Nova Scotia. Dr. Giddens has been practicing dentistry in Amherst since 2008.
Dr. Vivian Hsu, DDS

Dentist

Dr. Hsu attained her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2001 from Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Dentistry. She has been practicing dentistry in Amherst since 2008. She is certified by the National Dental Examining Board of Canada and is registered with the Provincial Dental Board of Nova Scotia.

Dr. Beth Briand, DDS

Dentist

After receiving her Bachelor of Science degree (biology) from Dalhousie University, Dr. Briand went on to graduate with her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree From Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Dentistry in 1999. She practiced dentistry in Alberta and the Northwest Territories in both clinical and hospital settings, before happily returning home to the Maritimes.
Although Dr. Briand is a general dentist, she has dedicated most of her career to helping children. However, she does welcome adult patients. She offers mild oral sedation and Nitrous Oxide sedation here at Atlantic Smile Dentistry.

Pam MacIntosh, RDH

Pam MacIntosh, RDH

Hygienist

Pam graduated from Dalhousie University with a diploma in Dental Hygiene in 1998. She is a member of both the Canadian Dental Hygienists Association and the College of Dental Hygienists of Nova Scotia. Pam joined Dr. Maddison’s dental team in 2006, where she enjoys welcoming new and returning patients, and helping them achieve healthy smiles.
When not in the office, she loves to explore the Maritimes with her husband and two children.
Deanna Parsons, RDH

Deanna Parsons, RDH

Hygienist

Deanna graduated from the Nova Scotia institute of Technology with her dental assisting certificate in 1999. She went on to receive her diploma in Dental Hygiene from Dalhousie University in 2002. Deanna particularly enjoys working with children.
Deanna loves spending as much time as she can with her two young boys on her days off.
Darcey Thompson, RDH

Darcey Thompson, RDH

Hygienist

Darcey graduated from Dalhousie University in 2002 with a diploma in Dental Hygiene. She is licensed by the College of Dental Hygienists of Nova Scotia and a member of the Canadian Dental Hygiene Association. Darcey spent the early part of her career working in Halifax and British Columbia before returning to Amherst in 2008, at which time she became a member of the Atlantic Smile team. She strives to provide an enjoyable atmosphere and quality care to all of her patients.
Cory Griffin, RDH

Cory Griffin, RDH

Hygienist

Cory graduated from Oulton College in 2010 with a Level II Dental Assisting diploma. She then went on to achieve a diploma in Dental Hygiene from the same college in 2013. She became a full-time member of the Atlantic Smile Team in 2016.
A native of Pugwash, you may see her helping out at her family run business.

Kim McCormick

Kim McCormick

Dental Assistant

Kim graduated from the Nova Scotia Institute of Technology in 1993 with her Level II Dental Assisting diploma. She knew at a young age that she would be following in her mother’s footsteps and become a dental assistant. She works alongside Dr. Maddison, providing excellent chairside skills and a warm, friendly experience to all patients. ‘Girl Kim,’ as she is known around the office, also has a special interest in oral surgery and dental implants.
Kim is happily married and the proud mom of an adult daughter and teenage son. Having a grown family has given her a new found freedom to spend time doing other things she loves to do, particularly relaxing at the beach and travelling.
Barb Bowes

Barb Bowes

Dental Assistant

A native of Miramichi, Barb graduated from Holland College in 1987 with a Level II Dental Assisting diploma. She has been a part of the team for the past 13 years, working a number of different roles. She is currently fulfilling duties as a ‘float’. Although she spends a lot of time in the sterilization room, you will see her updating digital x-rays, and helping out the doctors, receptionists, hygienists and assistants when needed. She ensures everyone has everything they need while getting her ‘steps in’ for the day.
In her leisure, she enjoys her involvement in the local community theatre and her newfound role as president of the LA Animal Shelter.

Jessica Perrin

Dental Assistant

Jessica graduated from Oulton College in 2016 with her Level II Dental Assisting diploma. She has truly found a love for dentistry. Jessica has a drive to make everyone smile, along with a passion for working with children. She is thrilled that the team at Atlantic Smile Dentistry has helped her find her dream career.
Jessica looks forward to her weekends where she spends time doing some of the things she loves most, especially playing &/or watching softball, crafting and snuggling her fur babies.

Shelby is the newest member of the Atlantic Smile team. She graduated from Holland College in 2016 with a Level II Dental Assisting diploma. Shelby has discovered that oral surgery particularly interests her.
When she’s not in the office, she loves to be outdoors, especially spending time on the water with friends and family.

Melanie Read

Melanie Read

Administrative Assistant/Dental Assistant

Melanie graduated from Holland College in 1999 with a Level II Dental Assisting diploma. She has been practicing dental assisting at the office for close to 10 years. Mel has recently switched roles and is now greeting patients as they come through the door, preparing and submitting insurance claims, managing records and a whole lot more. Her organizational skills & efficiency make her perfect for this new position, although her true love is working chairside with the doctors.
A busy mom of 2, she is a native of Wood Point, NB, where she is greatly involved with the Baptist church and the children’s group there.
Stephanie Bird

Administrative Assistant/Dental Assistant

Stephanie graduated from Oulton’s College in 2004 with a Level II Dental Assisting diploma. She has worked in the dental field ever since. Although she maintains her dental assisting licence, she can now be found at the front desk, specializing in patient services and is one of the first contacts new patients have. Her technical knowledge and determination to ‘figure things out’ are not taken for granted here at the office.
A busy hockey mom, Stephanie can be found spending time at the rink during the season. She treasures her family time.
Arlene Maddison

Bookkeeper/Office Manager

From former junior high teacher to bookkeeper, Arlene’s involvement with office staff and tasks began shortly after Dr. Maddison purchased the practice. Her intro to the clinic began with completing payroll and balancing bank recs. Arlene’s role has continued to grow and change. When the office relocated in June 2016, she surrendered her at-home office and happily welcomed a move to her new office and new role as part-time office manager. Loving being part of the team, she admits that her unforeseen switch from the education field to the dental field has been a great one.
Outside of the office, her favorite thing to do is hang out with her husband and three children.
Bonnie Wilkie

Bonnie Wilkie

Front Office Manager

Bonnie has worked many years in the dental field, initially as a dental assistant, but spent the majority of her time as an administrative assistant. Her dental knowledge, insurance knowledge, managerial and interpersonal skills, make her invaluable to the office, which is why she has never been able to truly retire!
A native of Lunenburg County, she has made a home in Amherst with her husband Gary, her two grown children and now, three grandchildren. She can be found volunteering at various church activities and running-solo or with the club.
